Wong Shih Yaw was born in Singapore in 1967. He graduated from NAFA in 1989 with a Diploma in Fine Art. Wong was a key collaborator in the seminal art collective, The Artists Village (TAV) through the 80s and early 90s.
Allegories: the works of Wong Shih Yaw presents a wide range of the artist's work: moving from academic still life works in watercolour and oil, to draft line sketches, cartoon illustrations and comprehensive drawings. An essay by Dr Bridget Tracy Tan, Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts and Art Galleries, NAFA, identifies the significance of allegories and figural iconography in Wong's practice, as well as the influence of Christianity in his work.
