Born in 1947, Poon Lian represents a generation of artists who were schooled in the richness of both Chinese traditions and those of the West. As a graduate of NAFA and a private student of the well-known pioneer, Chen Wen Hsi, Poon Lian uses various media and interpretative approaches in a wide range of subject matter to depict sceneries and poetic ambiences.

Rebel in Arcadia features over 40 works by the artist. The book includes a message from Mr Choo Thiam Siew, NAFA President, an introduction by the artist himself, and an essay by Ms Bridget Tracy Tan, Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts and Art Galleries, NAFA, discussing the ever-changing styles and techniques of the artist's paintings.
