Born in 1946, Chng Seok Tin was awarded the Cultural Medallion by the Government of Singapore in 2005. Her works include drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, textile, photography, ceramic, sculpture and installation. After losing her eyesight in 1988 due to a surgical procedure, she now focuses on mixed media and sculptural works.

Uncomon Wisdom assembles a range of her work from 1966 to 2011. The book also includes a message by Mr Choo Thiam Siew, President of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, an introductory essay by Ms Bridget Tracy Tan, Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts and Art Galleries, NAFA, and two personal essays by the artist herself, revealing her thoughts on the learning and practicing of art.
